Dinshaw J. Patel is an Indian-American structural biologist who holds the Abby Rockefeller Mauzé Chair in Experimental Therapeutics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
Early life and education Patel was born in 1942 in Mumbai, India and was raised in the Zoroastrian tradition.
Research interests Patel's research focuses on structural biology of nucleic acids and has been particularly impactful in the study of RNA structure and protein-RNA interaction mechanisms. Patel's research group has studied riboswitches and ribozymes, as well as nuclease proteins involved in RNA interference processes. The group also uses structural techniques to study innate immunity and lipid binding proteins.
