Ferdinand Stadler

Ferdinand Stadler (23 February 1813 – 24 March 1870) was a Swiss architect and one of Zurich's leading architects of the mid-19th century. He was known especially for church architecture, including the Elisabethenkirche in Basel, the Stadtkirche Glarus and Christ Church in Nazareth. In 1850, he won first prize in the competition for a Federal Palace in Bern.

Biography Ferdinand Stadler was born in Zurich on 23 February 1813. His father, Hans Kaspar Stadler, was a master carpenter and state building inspector. By the winter of 1835–1836, he was back in Zurich and had joined the construction work on the Münsterbrücke. It is one of the few surviving buildings by Stadler in the city. Studer was instructed to combine elements of Stadler's proposal with the second-place entry. Stadler's design was one of two awarded second prize, and after further revisions he received the commission. His later church designs included Christ Church in Nazareth, built from 1868 to 1871.
