John Duckworth FREng (27 December 1916 – 8 January 2015) was a British physicist known for his involvement in the development of Britain's radar defence network during World War II. He also served as the director of the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), and helped supervise Britain's efforts to develop nuclear technology in the 1950s. Duckworth worked as an industrial consultant in his later life. Thereafter, he joined the electronics company Ferranti, working on the development of the Bloodhound guided missile. After retiring from the NRDC, Duckworth worked for many years as an industrial consultant, and served on the boards of several companies.
Personal life In 1942, Duckworth married Dorothy Wills, who predeceased him. The couple were survived by their three sons.
