About Hugo Nutini
Lived 1929 – 2013 (aged 83–84). Hugo Nutini was an anthropologist.
Hugo G. Nutini (1928–2013) was an Italian-born Chilean and subsequently American professor of anthropology. He specialized in Mesoamerican studies. He attended UCLA and earned a second bachelor's degree this time in philosophy. When he returned he switched disciplines and began studying anthropology, still at UCLA. As part of his studies he was sent to Mexico. He chose to conduct research on marriage and family structure at San Bernardino Contla. However, the Norwegian sociologist Johan Galtung was in Chile and had already shared information about the project including its military backing. Furthermore the US ambassador to Chile, Ralph A. Dungan, received protests but did not even know about the program. The negative publicity led to the cancellation of the project.
