Johnson was born on September 13, 1965, in Pahokee, Florida. He went to Pahokee High School. Johnson also went to the University of Pittsburgh.

Johnson was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 1987 and played in one game. During that game, Johnson recorded one quarterback sack, it would be the only sack in his whole career, which that game would also be his last.
