Murrell L. Ewing

Murrell LaVonne Ewing (January 9, 1941 – December 31, 2010) was an American Pentecostal pastor, evangelist, and gospel singer. He conducted most of his ministry in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and was known as a solo performer and as a founding member of the Southern gospel group the Conquerors Quartet.

Early life Ewing was born on January 9, 1941, in Boggy Bayou, a community in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana. He was the son of Tom Ed Ewing and Marie Ewing. In 1950, his family moved to the Lake Charles and Moss Bluff area, where his father became pastor of the congregation then known as English Bayou Pentecostal Church.

On November 24, 1959, he married Joan Clark Ewing, a songwriter and frequent collaborator in his music ministry. They had two children, Landy Ewing and Vonnie Ewing Lopez.

Music career In addition to his pastoral ministry, Ewing pursued a career as a Pentecostal and Southern gospel singer. He performed as a solo artist and was a founding member of the Conquerors Quartet, a group that appeared throughout the Southern United States.

One of Ewing's best-known performances was "He Saw Me", which appeared on the album Gaither Gospel Series: Rivers of Joy.

A live performance of "He Saw Me" featuring Ewing was later published by Gaither Music TV on YouTube.

Murrell and Joan Ewing received a lifetime achievement award from the Pentecostal Music Association for their contributions to Pentecostal music.

Authorship of these songs should not be confused with Ewing's role as performer, as several songs associated with his career were written by Joan Ewing.

Death and legacy Ewing died at his residence in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, on December 31, 2010, at the age of 69.
