Mecha Nageswara Rao

Mecha Nageswara Rao is an Indian politician from Telangana and a member of the Telugu Desam Party. He was a member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly from Aswaraopeta.

Mecha Nageswara Rao first contested the Aswaraopeta Assembly constituency in the 2014 Telangana elections as a TDP candidate but lost to YSRCP's Thati Venkateswarlu by a narrow margin of 930 votes (49,546 vs 48,616; a difference of 0.65%).

In 2018, he contested again as a TDP candidate, this time as the joint candidate of the Praja Kutami alliance (INC-TDP-TJS-CPI), and won the seat by defeating TRS's Thati Venkateswarlu with a margin of 13,117 votes (61,124 vs 48,007; a margin of 10.35%). In that election, the TDP won only two seats in Telangana – Aswaraopeta (Mecha Nageswara Rao) and Sathupalli (SC), won by Sandra Venkata Veeraiah.

In April 2021, Mecha Nageswara Rao, along with another TDP MLA, defected to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). In the 2023 Assembly election, he contested on a BRS ticket but lost to INC's Jare Adinarayana by a margin of 28,905 votes (74,993 vs 46,088; a margin of 21.22%).
