About Inoue Yoshika

Lived 1845 – 1929 (aged 83). Inoue Yoshika was a Japanese military personnel.

Satsuma Rebellion and voyage to Europe Inoue admired Saigō Takamori but remained loyal to the Meiji government against his former Satsuma clansmen when the Satsuma Rebellion broke out in 1877. The rebellion was fought overwhelmingly by the army; the navy's role was largely confined to coastal transport and bombardment support, and Seiki, under Inoue's command, operated mainly off Miyazaki. Its most notable action came when Satsuma forces cut the land route between Nobeoka and Kagoshima, and Inoue's ship carried out an emergency sea transport of troops and supplies from Hoshima to Kagoshima.

Personal life and death Inoue spoke only in the Kagoshima dialect throughout his life, never adopting standard Japanese even in his later, highly public career.
