The third son of John Bridgeman, Bishop of Chester, and Elizabeth Helyar, he was educated at Brasenose College, Oxford, graduating with Master of Arts degrees in 1639 and 1641. He was ordained in the Anglican ministry as a deacon on 9 June 1639 and a priest on 22 December 1639. He was installed (by proxy) a canon of York on 22 September 1660, holding the prebendary of Stillington. He received a Bachelorate of Divinity (BD) in 1661 and Doctorate of Divinity (DD) in 1664. and Rural Dean of Manchester on 27 August 1664.
He died in office on 15 May 1682.
