Godfrey LeMay

Godfrey Hugh Lancelot Le May (1920–2012) was a tutor and Emeritus Fellow at Worcester College, University of Oxford, and a former Dean of History at Worcester College. His focus area was modern British history.

Early life Le May's family had travelled from England to South Africa during the Boer Wars, in which his grandfather was an officer. He was born on 7 September 1920 in South Africa. In 1939 he was working as a reporter on the Johannesburg Star, and in 1942 he was in Khartoum as Assistant Editor on The Sudan Star.

Le May graduated from Rhodes University College. He served as a speech writer for Winston Churchill. In 1951 he was an Official British War Historian.
