About Elmore Harris

Lived 1922 – 1968 (aged 46). Elmore Harris was an american football player and athletics competitor.

Elmore R. Harris (June 3, 1922 – December 8, 1968) was an American athlete. He won three National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) track championships, and played professional football for the Brooklyn Dodgers of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC). Harris was considered the top choice for the U.S. track team in the 400 metres event at the 1948 Summer Olympics. However, he instead decided to sign with the Dodgers, eliminating himself from Olympic eligibility.

Early life Elmore R. Harris was born on June 3, 1922, in Huntsville, Alabama.

Harris signed with the Chicago Rockets of the AAFC on March 2, 1948, but was released before ever playing for them.

Harris then played in three games, starting one, for the AFL's Paterson Panthers in 1949. Harris appeared in five games, starting two, for the Giants during the 1949 season. He also played in three games, starting two, for Jersey City in 1950.

Personal life Harris was the founder of Olympia Cleaning Corporation in the Bronx. He died of a heart attack on December 8, 1968, in Queen's, New York.
