Eino Tainio

Eino Alfred Tainio (8 September 190523 July 1970) was a Finnish printer, politician and member of the Parliament of Finland, the national legislature of Finland. A member of the Communist Party of Finland (SKP) and the Finnish People's Democratic League (SKDL), he represented Lapland Province between April 1945 and March 1970. Prior to being elected, he was imprisoned for twelve years for political reasons. Pohjan Voima was banned following the introduction of anti-communist laws in 1930.

Tainio worked in the gymnastics and sports club in Kemi. He joined the banned Communist Party of Finland (SKP) in 1926. He and two other men were arrested in autumn 1928 by border guards in Kuusamo. They were accused of trying to defect to the Soviet Union but were released after interrogation.

In the early hours of 31 July 1929 the EK secret police raided Tainio's home in Kemi and arrested him. On 1 November 1929 the Court of Appeal in Vaasa convicted Tainio of preparing for treason and sentenced him to three years imprisonment with loss of civic rights for a further six years. He was imprisoned in Tammisaari concentration camp before being released in August 1932. On 28 March 1934 the Court of Appeal in Vaasa convicted Tainio of preparing for treason and sentenced him to five years imprisonment. He was imprisoned in Tammisaari and Riihimäki Prison before being released on 31 October 1938. He was re-elected at the 1948, 1951, 1954, 1958, 1962 and 1966 parliamentary elections. He was not re-elected at the 1970 parliamentary election. He was deputy chairman of the SKDL parliamentary group. He was a presidential elector at the 1950, 1956, 1962 and 1968 presidential elections.
