He played at representative level for England and Lancashire, and at club level for St. Helens Recs, Oldham, Wigan (World War II guest), St Helens (World War II guest), Leigh, Workington and Widnes, as a or . played in the 6–14 defeat by Wigan in the 1951 Lancashire Cup Final during the 1951–52 season at Station Road, Swinton on Saturday 27 October 1951, and played at in the 22–5 victory over St. Helens in the 1952 Lancashire Cup Final during the 1952–53 season at Station Road, Swinton on Saturday 29 November 1952.
International honours Kerwick won a cap for England while at Leigh in 1949 against Other Nationalities.
