About Charles Booth Brackenbury

Lived 1831 – 1890 (aged 58). Charles Booth Brackenbury was a British military personnel.

Charles Booth Brackenbury (7 November 1831 – 20 June 1890) was a British major general and military correspondent, part of a Lincolnshire family whose members fought in nearly all of Britain's wars of the 19th century. He saw service in the Crimean War, and was present at the Battle of Königgrätz and the Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878). He was one of the most extensive military writers in the mid to late 19th century.

Early life

Brackenbury was born on 7 November 1831 being decorated for services at the Siege of Sevastopol (1854–55). He was later promoted to first captain in 1865. Following the Representation of the People Act 1867 he served as a boundary commissioner.

Brackenbury died of heart failure on 20 June 1890 while travelling by rail. He was buried with military honours at Plumstead Cemetery.
