Benjamin Taylor Simmons (August 27, 1871 – April 17, 1933) was an American brigadier general who served in the Spanish–American War and the First World War.

Early life Benjamin Taylor Simmons was born in Fairfield, Hyde County, North Carolina on 27 August 1871. He studied at the University of North Carolina from 1888 to 1890.

Military service

Simmons joined the United States Military Academy on 17 June 1890. He graduated from the USMA forty-third in his class of fifty-two on 12 June 1895. Following his graduation, Simmons was commissioned into the infantry as a second lieutenant and proceeded to serve at several military installations throughout the United States between 30 September 1895 and 21 April 1898 with the 16th Infantry Regiment. Fort Douglas, Fort Sherman, and Fort Spokane are listed among the locations at which the regiment was posted during this time.

1900–1914 Simmons returned to the United States and was stationed in Houston, Texas at Fort Sam Houston, but moved to Washington D.C. to become a detailed member of the General Staff Corps for the office of the chief of staff in 1909. In 1912 he was assigned to the 17th Infantry Regiment and moved between forts for the next three years.

Later life After retirement, Simmons lived in Washington, D.C.

Simmons died at the Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington on 17 April 1933. He was buried in his North Carolina hometown on 20 April 1933.
