Goodwin was born in Whiteley Township, Pennsylvania. Goodwin later served as an assistant secretary for the Monongahela Railway's YMCA in Brownsville, Pennsylvania. Goodwin died at Greene County Memorial Hospital in Franklin Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania on June 19, 1943.
