Abdolreza Jamilian

Abdolreza Jamilian (Persian: عبدالرضا جمیلیان; born 1965) is an Iranian orthodontist, researcher, and academic. He is Director of the MSc in orthodontics at the University of Greater Manchester and has held an academic position in orthodontics at Islamic Azad University in Tehran.

Jamilian's research has focused on orthodontics, including the treatment of Class III malocclusion, maxillary deficiency, orthodontic treatment outcomes, and craniofacial conditions. His publications include clinical studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses in peer-reviewed journals.

Education and academic career

Jamilian received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran in 1991 and completed postgraduate training in orthodontics at the same university in 1998. He subsequently completed fellowship training in orthognathic surgery and craniofacial syndromes. He obtained certification from the European Board of Orthodontics in 2013.

He has held an academic position in the Department of Orthodontics at Islamic Azad University in Tehran. He is also Director of the MSc in orthodontics at the University of Greater Manchester.

Research

Jamilian has published research concerning the treatment of skeletal and dental malocclusions, particularly Class III malocclusion and maxillary deficiency.

In 2011, Jamilian and colleagues published a study investigating the effects of miniscrew-supported Class III traction in growing patients with maxillary deficiency. The study was indexed in PubMed.

Jamilian and colleagues also studied the use of fixed and removable facemasks in growing patients with maxillary deficiency.

In 2016, he was a co-author of an overview of systematic reviews concerning orthopedic treatment for Class III malocclusion. The study examined the methodological quality and reported outcomes of systematic reviews in this area.

Jamilian has also published research concerning orthodontic treatment and oral health-related quality of life.

His later research has included systematic reviews and meta-analyses in areas outside orthodontics. In 2024, he was a co-author of a systematic review and meta-analysis examining the relationship between vitamin D and outcomes in critically ill patients.

Jamilian is listed as an inventor on several United States patents relating to orthodontic devices and methods.
