Zainul Abedin

Zainul Abedin (; born 27 July 1953) is a Bangladeshi lawyer, politician and member of parliament. He represents the Barisal-3 constituency, which comprises Muladi and Babuganj upazilas. He is also a veteran of the Bangladesh Liberation War and an active participant in the independence movement.

Abedin was elected as a member of parliament in the 13th National Parliamentary Election held in 2026 as a candidate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). On 13 July 2026, he was appointed Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Early life and family

Abedin was born on 27 July 1953 in Purba Hosenabad village, Muladi, Barisal, East Bengal (now Bangladesh) into a respected Muslim family. His father was Dalil Uddin and his mother was Amena Begum. From childhood, he was raised with moral values, a love for education and humanitarian principles. The rural environment, the lifestyle of the riverine southern region and the realities of an agrarian society shaped his thinking and sense of social responsibility.

Education

Abedin completed his primary and secondary education at local schools. His academic qualifications include:
