About Valentina Halitov

Valentina Halitov (born 1 October 1926, Chişinău, Moldova – died 9 July 2012, Chişinău ) was a pediatric Infection Medical doctor from Moldova.

Education Valentina Halitov was born on October 1, 1926, in Chişinău, to a working-class family. She graduated from the "Principa Dadiani" High School. She studied at the Chişinău Medical Institute between 1945 and 1950, and was among the first graduates of the institute.

In 1962, she defended her doctoral thesis, and in 1967, she became head of the Department of Pediatric Infection, which she headed for almost 40 years. In 1975, she specialized in pediatric infectious diseases at the Moscow State University No. 2 and in 1983 at the Saint Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University, where she was promoted to professor. She began working as a full professor in 1991. From 1997 to 2012, she was a consultant professor at the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases.

Career She was active in the field of diagnosis, prevention and treatment of infectious diseases in children, especially in the study of gastrointestinal infections in children, their pathogenesis and immunology, and her work was an important factor in the fight against scarlet fever, polio, diphtheria, viral hepatitis in Moldova. She conducted courses and seminars, trained specialists in this field, including in 12 secondary clinical schools, and published more than 100 scientific articles on pediatric immunology over 40 years.

Halitova was the president of the Scientific Society of Infectious Diseases of Moldova, a member of the Scientific Council of the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy and a member of the Scientific Council for the Defense of theses of Doctor of Medical Sciences and Licensed Physicians.

Awards and honors Valentina Halitova was awarded the Order of Honor twice, in 1971 and 1981. In 1995, the President of Moldova, Mircea Sanagur, awarded her the Order of the Republic, the highest state decoration. In 2013, the Senate of the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy decided to name the Clinic of Pediatric Infectious Diseases after Valentina Halitova. A year later, the prominent role of the infectious disease physician at the Municipal Clinical Hospital for Children's Infectious Diseases was revealed.
