Life Lingen was the daughter of actor Theo Lingen and actress Marianne Zoff, the first wife of Bertolt Brecht. Zoff's daughter, actress Hanne Hiob, was Ursula Lingen's half-sister. She was married to the actor and film director Kurt Meisel.
