Awards Miller received the silver Citation Star for heroism during American Indian Wars fighting against the Hunkpapa along Armells Creek near Miles City, Montana on 8 March 1880. When the Silver Star medal was created in 1932, Miller's Citation Star was converted to the new award. The citation read:
