About Rosanna Carter

Lived 1918 – 2001 (aged 82–83). Rosanna Carter was an American actor, television actor and film actor.

Rosanna Rolle Carter (September 20, 1918 – December 30, 2016) was a Bahamian American television, stage and film actress. During the Harlem Renaissance, she acted at New Lafayette Theater as one of the Lafayette Players. She acted in The Brother from Another Planet, a well-reviewed 1984 film described by its director as a science fiction allegory of immigration. She was the sister of Esther Rolle and Estelle Evans.

Early life and education Rosanna Rolle was born on September 20, 1918 the family followed Rolle grew up in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Rolle was one of 18 children. She was the older sister of actress Esther Rolle and the younger sister of actress Estelle Evans. Her Broadway credits include Inacent Black (1980), The American Clock (1980), and My Sister, My Sister (1973).

In 1979, she was filming episodes of PBS's Getting to Know Me.

Awards Carter received an AUDELCO award in 1977 for her work as a supporting actress in the play, Unfinished Women. She was nominated for an Emmy Award as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in I'll Fly Away in 1993, losing to Elaine Stritch who performed in Law & Order.
