Paschal Salisbury

Paschal Salibury, OP (born Donald Hughes Salisbury; 6 June 1928 – 18 August 2023) was an American Catholic priest who was the first African-American member of the Dominican Order. He grew up at a time when there were strict segregation laws and very limited employment opportunities for African Americans.

Military service In 1946, he graduated at the Liberty Memorial High School and immediately enlisted himself in the United States Army, which was segregated at the time.

Death On late July 2023, Salisbury became very ill and was sent to the hospital on August 9, being entered to hospice care for the final weeks of his life. He died on 18 August 2023, at the age of 95.
