Omar al-Tayib was a politician.
Lieutenant General Omar Mohamed al-Tayib was a Sudanese soldier and politician. He was educated at the Military College of Sudan. , and then First Vice President (1982–1985) and Nimeiry's powerful head of State Security Organization. Al-Tayib deputized Nimeiry when he was ill. Al-Tayib was also described to be a close friend of Abdul Majid Khalil. in an allegedly politically motivated trial. He emigrated to Saudi-Arabia at that time, and returned to Sudan in 2000.
