Olamide Samuel

Olamide Mobolaji Samuel (born 4 September 1992) is a Nigerian expert in arms control, nuclear policy, and international security. He has worked as a Senior Teaching Fellow at SOAS University of London, a Research Associate in Nuclear Politics at the University of Leicester, and has contributed analysis to outlets including Al Jazeera.

Early life and education Samuel was born in Lagos, Nigeria, on 4 September 1992 and is from Yagba-East Local Government Area of Kogi State. He obtained a Bachelor of International Law and Diplomacy (B.ILD) from Babcock University in 2013 and a Master of Arts in Security, Intelligence and Diplomacy from the University of Buckingham in 2015. He completed a PhD in Security and Intelligence Studies (also described as National Security Strategy) at the University of Buckingham’s Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies in 2019.

Career Samuel has held academic positions at SOAS University of London (Senior Teaching Fellow in the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy), where he coordinated the SCRAP Weapons nuclear disarmament programme from 2019 to 2021, and at the University of Leicester as a Research Associate in Nuclear Politics.

He has served as Special Envoy of the Executive Secretary of the African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE) and as Network and Engagement Specialist at the Open Nuclear Network. In 2020 he was appointed to the security task force of the Vatican COVID-19 Commission established by Pope Francis.
