Ojo Ade

Ojo Ade (born 10 October 1959) is a Nigerian gospel singer, songwriter and evangelist. He is regarded as one of the pioneers of indigenous Yoruba gospel music and is known for popularising evangelical music through albums such as Jesun To Funmi and Satani Ko Sinmi.

Early life and education

Ojo Ade was born on 10 October 1959 in Ikeji-Ile, present-day Osun State, Nigeria. He attended St. Jude's Anglican Primary School in his hometown before relocating to Lagos, where he undertook vocational training in electronics. He later enrolled at Calvary International Bible College in Ibadan, where he received theological training under Reverend Anjorin.

Career

Ojo Ade began singing in church in 1977 as a choir member before establishing his own gospel music group in 1979. In 1981 he released his debut album, Jesun To Funmi, which brought him recognition within the Nigerian gospel music scene. He subsequently released several albums, including Satani Ko Sinmi, helping to popularise Yoruba-language gospel music across southwestern Nigeria.

Beyond music, Ade is an evangelist and has ministered at church conferences, crusades and revival programmes across Nigeria. His ministry combines gospel music with Christian preaching and teaching.

Musical style and influence

Ojo Ade is known for performing predominantly in the Yoruba language while incorporating traditional musical rhythms with contemporary gospel themes. Music scholars have identified him as one of the influential figures in the development of indigenous Nigerian gospel music.
