Marius Grundmann

Marius Grundmann (born 14 November 1964 in Berlin) is a German physicist and university professor. He served as Director of the Felix Bloch Institute for Solid State Physics for two decades.

Education and career

Grundmann attended primary school in Berlin-Schmargendorf from 1970 to 1974. He then attended the Gymnasium zum Grauen Kloster, where he obtained his Abitur (German university entrance qualification) in 1982. In 1983, he began studying physics at the Technical University of Berlin. He graduated in 1988 with a diploma thesis entitled Pseudomorphic Quantum Wells and Excitonic Effects, receiving the overall grade of sehr gut ("very good"). In the same year, he was appointed professor at Leipzig University. From 2022 to 2025, he served as dean of the Faculty of Physics and Earth System Sciences at Leipzig University. 2020 – Rudolf Jaeckel Prize of the German Vacuum Society (DVG).
