Marie Alizon

Marie Alizon (born 9 May 1921 in Rennes – died 4 June 1943 in Auschwitz) was a member of the French Resistance. Biography Marie Alizon was born on May 9, 1921, at her parents' home in Rennes, at 36 rue Sainte-Mélaine. She was nicknamed Mariette. her father, Jean, a recipient of the Croix de Guerre, worked as a chauffeur. Later, her parents became hotel owners and, in 1935, they built the Hôtel d'Arvor near the train station. Marie took over the management of the family establishment when her mother became seriously ill.

She and her sister Simone (1925-2013), nicknamed Poupette, made contact with the in October 1941. This network had been operating in Brittany since March 1941 and primarily targeted German warships stationed in Brest. Following arrests, the network had to abandon its stations in Finistère. It established itself in Rennes, where Marie and Simone Alizon received coded information which they then transmitted to radio operators, who relayed it by wireless telegraphy to London. Two radio operators were housed at the hotel where network members stayed during their visits to Rennes. Arrest Marie and Simone Alizon were arrested by the Feldgendarmerie on March 13 and 17, 1942. Imprisoned for a few days in Rennes, they were then transferred to La Santé prison in Paris, then to Fresnes prison, and finally, on November 10, 1942, to Fort de Romainville. they only learned in January 1943 of their mother's death, which had occurred on July 5, 1942. Simone Alizon survived the camps, but suffered profound aftereffects. she married Jean Le Roux, one of the founders of the Johnny network.
