About Margarita Ortega Villa

Lived 1947 – 1996 (aged 48–49). Margarita Ortega Villa was a Mexican politician and sociologist.

Margarita Ortega Villa (She was also known by the married name Margarita Ortega [Villa] de Romo.)

In 1973–1976 she was the alternate of Federico Martínez Manautou, who was elected to the Chamber of Deputies to represent Baja California's 1st congressional district in the 1973 mid-terms; she deputised for him in 1974–1975. She was later elected to the Congress of Baja California for the 1974–1977 term and, from 1982 to 1985, was the alternate of José Ignacio Monge Rangel in the federal Congress, again representing Baja California's 1st.

In the 1985 mid-terms, Ortega was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in her own right, representing Baja California's 4th district for the duration of the 53rd Congress (1985–1988). At the end of her term in the lower house, she was elected to the Senate for Baja California in the 1988 general election. She came second in the 2 July 1989 election, defeated by a result of 47.83% to 38.29% in favour of Ernesto Ruffo Appel of the National Action Party (PAN). (Candidates from four other parties – PRD, PARM, PPS and PFCRN – failed to break 2% of the vote.)

Following her defeat in the gubernatorial election, Ortega Villa declined to return to her Senate seat, despite the urgings of colleagues including Dulce María Sauri Riancho. She served as director-general of the National Consumer Institute (INCO) from 1989 to 1992.

Family Margarita Ortega's parents were Mario Ortega Cervantes and Carmen Villa Aguilar. She was married to José Jesús Romo Reynoso.
