Lotfollah Yarmohammadi

Lotfollah Yarmohammadi (1933–2021) was an Iranian linguist who was emeritus professor of linguistics at Shiraz University. He is known for his expertise on discourse analysis. Yarmohammadi was a permanent member of the Academy of Sciences of Iran. Yarmohammadi died in 2021, at the age of 88.

Early life and education Lotfollah Yarmohammadi was born on 23 July 1933 in Farahan, Iran. He received a bachelor's degree in English from Daneshsara-ye Aali (Teachers education College) in Tehran in 1958. He later continued his studies at Indiana University Bloomington, where he earned a master's degree in English in 1960 and a Ph.D. in linguistics in 1965. His doctoral dissertation, A Contrastive Study of Modern English and Modern Persian, examined the structural differences between English and Persian and reflected his long-standing interest in contrastive linguistics and language education.
