Long-Qing Chen

Long-Qing Chen (Chinese: 陈龙庆; born 1962) is a Chinese-American materials scientist, engineer, and academic. He is Evan Pugh University Professor and Donald W. Hamer Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University, where he also holds appointments in engineering science and mechanics, mathematics, and physics. He is known for contributions to computational materials science, particularly the development and application of phase-field methods for predicting phase transformations and microstructure evolution in materials.

After earning degrees from Zhejiang University, Stony Brook University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Chen joined the Penn State faculty in 1992. He has been recognized as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher and is a Fellow of several scientific societies, including the Materials Research Society, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society, the American Physical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, ASM International, and the American Ceramic Society.

He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in Engineering in 2005.

Chen has been recognized as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher in materials science and related fields.
