About Kimberley Brownlee

Born 1978. Kimberley Brownlee is a Canadian philosopher and academic.

Kimberley Brownlee (born 1978) is a Canadian philosopher. She holds a Canada Research Chair in Ethics at the University of British Columbia. Previously, she was a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Warwick. She is known for her works on conscience, conviction, civil disobedience, the ethics of sociability, human rights, girls' rights, and antigirlism. Brownlee is a winner of the Philip Leverhulme Prize.

Whilst studying at Oxford, Brownlee competed for the Oxford University Dancesport Club, for which she was awarded a Full Blue in 2006.

In 2022, Brownlee was awarded the Kitty Newman Memorial Award by the Royal Society of Canada.

In 2025, Brownlee gave the Uehiro Lectures in Practical Ethics at Oxford University on the topic of reproductive rights.

Education After completing the International Baccalaureate at Lester B. Pearson College, Brownlee received a BA in Philosophy from McGill University in 2001. She then received an MPhil in Philosophy from Cambridge University in 2002 and a DPhil in Philosophy from Oxford University in 2007 as a Rhodes Scholar.
