He graduated from Ghent University as a bridge and road engineer.
Architectural career Helleputte became a professor of architecture at the Catholic University of Leuven, teaching architects like Raymond Lemaire and Raphaël Verwilghen.
Helleputte's sister, Rosalie, married the Belgian architect Louis Cloquet.
