Early career Born in Canandaigua, New York, the fifth of six children of Noah Turner Clarke and Laura Mason Merrill,
John M. Clarke died in 1925 in Albany, New York. He was survived by his wife Fannie and son Noah. Prix de Léonide Spindiaroff, International Geological Congress, 1910. Elected Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, 1915. Gold medal, Permanent Wild Life Protection Fund, 1920.
