Life Büchel was born on 10 May 1869 in Ruggell as the son of veterinarian Ulrich Büchel and Magdalena (née Schöch) as one of five children. He worked in Switzerland in his early adulthood, and then worked as a farmer, bricklayer and embroiderer.
He was a member of the Ruggell municipal council from 1906 to 1912. During this time, he oversaw the construction of a bridge between Ruggell and Sennwald. He died ten days later, aged 61.
