International career From 1966 to 1968, Velea was consistently featured for Romania's under-23 and B sides.
After retirement After he ended his playing career, Velea became a referee who officiated 123 Divizia A matches over the course of 12 years.
Personal life In 2023, Velea received the Honorary Citizen of Craiova title.
