Clifford Ohiagu is a Nigerian politician and member of the 4th National Assembly representing Obi Ngwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo constituency of Abia State under the umbrella of the People's Democratic Party.

Early life and education

Clifford Odinkemere Ezekwesiri Ohiagu was born on 31 October 1942 in Obegu-Aba, in present-day Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria. He received his early education at St. Peter's School, Obegu, where he attended from 1949 to 1954, and later studied at Government Secondary School, Afikpo, from 1955 to 1960.

Ohiagu pursued higher education in agricultural science. He attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, from 1963 to 1966, where he obtained his first degree. He later continued his studies abroad, obtaining postgraduate qualifications from Kansas State University, Manhattan, United States, between 1971 and 1973, and from Imperial College, University of London, between 1976 and 1977.

His academic background in agriculture and crop protection formed the foundation for his later career as a university lecturer, researcher, and administrator before his entry into elective politics.

Career

Before entering elective politics, Clifford Odinkemere Ezekwesiri Ohiagu worked in agricultural research, university teaching, and academic administration. After completing his undergraduate studies at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, he worked as an agricultural science teacher before joining the university and research sector.

Ohiagu served in the Department of Crop Protection at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he was involved in research activities relating to crop protection and cereal production. He later served as a research professor in the department.

He held academic and administrative positions, including Professor and Director of the Cereals Research Programme at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Between 1988 and 1994, he served as Rector and Chief Executive of the Michael Okpara College of Agriculture, Umudike (then in Imo State), and later served as Professor and Head of the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine at Abia State University from 1995 to 1998.

Political career

Clifford Odinkemere Ezekwesiri Ohiagu entered elective politics in 1999 and was elected to represent the Obingwa/Ugwunagbo/Osisioma Federal Constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He served as a member of the 4th National Assembly from 1999 to 2003.
