Layden-Stevenson was born in Saint John, New Brunswick. Layden-Steven studied at the New Brunswick Teachers' College, St. Thomas University and University of New Brunswick. she was appointed Judge of the Federal Court of Canada, Trial Division and ex-officio member of the Court of Appeal (the Appeal Division) on 25 January 2002. She was also appointed Judge of the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada on 18 April 2002.
Layden-Stevenson died on 27 June 2012 in Ottawa, Ontario.
