About Boleslaw Wyslouch

Boleslaw Wyslouch was a physicist.

Boleslaw "Bolek" Wyslouch is a Polish-American physicist working in nuclear and high-energy physics, particularly the study of heavy ion collisions at high energies. He is a Jerrold R. Zacharias Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he serves as the Director of the Bates Research and Engineering Center.

Education Wyslouch studied physics at the University of Warsaw but left Poland in 1981 without completing his degree. He subsequently conducted undergraduate research at CERN (Geneva) and CEA Saclay (Paris) in 1981-1982. In 1983, he began his doctoral studies at MIT, conducting research with the MARK-J experiment at DESY (Hamburg). He received his PhD in physics from MIT in 1987.

Career Following his doctoral work, Wyslouch held postdoctoral appointments at MIT’s Laboratory for Nuclear Science and at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland.

In 1991, Wyslouch joined the MIT faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics. He was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 1998 and became a full Professor in 2002.

Betwen 2015 and 2026, Wyslouch has served as the Director of the Laboratory for Nuclear Science at MIT. Since 2018, he is serving as the Director of the Bates Research and Engineering Center.
