Emmanuel Kwadwo Ayisi Oware, professionally known as Ayisi, is a Ghanaian musician, songwriter, recording artist and founder of A-Konnekt, whose work has contributed to the evolving landscape of contemporary Ghanaian music. Born on 21 July 1986 in Accra, Ghana, and originally from Jumapo in Koforidua, Ayisi has built a distinctive musical identity through his fusion of Hip-Hop, Highlife, Hiplife and broader African and global musical influences.

Ayisi’s relationship with music began during childhood, influenced significantly by his father, who was a drummer and maintained an extensive collection of music. This early exposure introduced him to a wide range of musical traditions and artists and helped shape his appreciation for rhythm, songwriting and diverse musical expression. During his secondary-school years, Ayisi began writing and recording music, developing the foundation of the artistic practice that would later define his career.

One of the defining moments of Ayisi’s early career came with “Anger Management.” In 2014, the song earned him first place in the Hip-Hop/R&B category of the International Songwriting Competition, making him one of the notable Ghanaian artists to achieve international recognition through the competition. The accomplishment reinforced his reputation as a songwriter whose music could combine personal reflection with contemporary African and global influences.

Ayisi continued to expand his musical vocabulary through collaborations and releases, including the widely recognised “Grind,” released with Vision DJ in 2016. In 2020, the artist formally transitioned from the name A.I. to Ayisi, a decision influenced partly by the difficulty of distinguishing the name from the increasingly prominent term “artificial intelligence” in online searches. In 2025, Ayisi received the Record of the Year award at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards for “Can I Live?”, marking a major milestone in a career that had developed over more than a decade. The recognition was particularly significant given his longstanding philosophy that artistic success should be measured not merely by commercial numbers, but by the impact and meaning that music creates for its listeners.

Life and music career Ayisi (pronounced /əˈjɪsɪ/) is a Ghanaian music artist born in Accra. His interest in music began at an early age through his father who was a drummer in a band and had a vast collection of music, aiding and introducing Ayisi to a broader knowledge of different genres of music. He started recording in high school at Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School in 2004. Ayisi's inspiration is drawn from legends like Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Eminem, Bob Marley, Youssou Ndour, among others.
