About August Udoh

August Udoh was a Nigerian photographer.

August Udoh is a Nigerian photographer and photojournalist based in Lagos. He is best known for his documentary portraits of Dambe fighters, a traditional form of boxing practised mainly among the Hausa people of northern Nigeria.

Udoh’s 2018 Dambe series documented the underground fight clubs and the distinctive one-handed fighting style of the sport. The work received international attention after being featured by CNN.

In addition to the Dambe project, Udoh has produced portrait series of everyday Nigerians and athletes with disabilities. He has also photographed Nigerian musicians and entertainers, including M.I Abaga, Burna Boy, Ice Prince, and others.
