About Amandine Pierre-Louis

Born 1995. Amandine Pierre-Louis is a Canadian association football player.

College career Pierre-Louis appeared in 92 games during her four-year college career at West Virginia University. In 2016 she helped the Mountaineers reach their first College Cup Final. In her senior year in 2017 she was named Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

During her college career, she played with the Laval Comets in the USL W-League.

Club career Sky Blue FC Pierre-Louis was selected by Sky Blue FC with the 6th overall pick in the 2018 NWSL College Draft, she was the second Canadian selected in the first round. She was named to the final roster for the 2018 season, but due to injury has not yet appeared in a game for Sky Blue. Pierre-Louis has said that after being drafted, the club did not have permanent housing arranged for her, and that when a scheduled host family fell through, staff proposed she stay in the general manager's basement, an offer she said she found inappropriate given that she is a woman. She has said she instead arranged to stay with the family of a former West Virginia teammate in New Jersey for the duration of the situation, and that she faced a lengthy daily commute of roughly ninety minutes to training and matches during her rookie season.

Pierre-Louis received her first senior Canada women's national soccer team call-up in January 2017 for a training camp in Los Angeles. She was eligible to file a one-time switch with FIFA in order to play for Haiti, which she qualifies through her father.

Personal life Pierre-Louis has discussed the ACL injury she sustained around February 2020, saying that delays in obtaining a French healthcare card as a Canadian player led her to pay for her own medical appointments out of pocket, which she said were never reimbursed. She has said that following her surgery, she was not provided transportation to rehabilitation appointments by her club at the time and was told by staff to take public transit, prompting her to arrange her own transportation and submit an invoice that she said went unanswered. She has also said that during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic she had no contact with the club's medical staff and independently arranged remote physiotherapy sessions.

Pierre-Louis has spoken about experiences of racism during her career playing abroad, saying she has encountered generalizing and stereotyping remarks from coaching staff regarding Black players, and has described feelings of isolation as one of relatively few Black women playing professionally in some of the countries where she has been based. She has said she believes greater representation of women in football leadership positions, and continued advocacy from current and former players, are necessary to improve conditions in women's football, citing the launch of clubs such as Angel City FC as a positive example, and has said male athletes publicly supporting women's sports, as seen in the WNBA, could have a similar positive effect in soccer.

Pierre-Louis has also spoken about body image pressures in women's football, saying she has heard coaches comment on players' weight for reasons unrelated to athletic performance, and has said such remarks, combined with social media portrayals of body standards, can contribute to disordered eating among athletes.
