Death and legacy
Ali Imam died of a heart attack on 23 May 2002 at Karachi. He left behind a wife, Shahnaz and two children. Spokespersons at many art galleries where he had been active for many years including Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Pakistan Art Institute and the Arts Council of Pakistan expressed sorrow over his death.
