Vira Varman
King of Chenla
About Vira Varman
Viravarman (, ) was the king of Chenla.
Biography King Viravarman was from the House of Kaundinya (Lunar Dynasty). He was referred to in an inscription as the son of Sārvabhauma Rundravrma, the founder of the Chenla capital, Bhavapura. Michael Vickery reconstructs him as the father of King Mahendravarman and stepfather of King Bhavavarman I — held under this reading to be the son of King Prathivīndravarman by Viravarman's wife before her remarriage. A more recent reading of the Wat Ban Khwao inscription (Phimai district, Nakhon Ratchasima), by Kangwon Katchima and supported by Anurak Depimai, names Viravarman directly as father of both Mahendravarman and Bhavavarman I, making the stepfather arrangement above unnecessary and the two kings full brothers.
