About Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi

Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi (; born 23 May 1973) is an Emirati royal who has been Deputy Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, and deputy chairman of the emirate's Executive Council, since August 2021. A member of the ruling Al Qasimi family, he has been president of the University of Sharjah and chairman of its board of trustees since December 2021, chairman of the Sharjah Media Council since 2017, chairman of the Sharjah National Oil Corporation since 2010, and chairman of the Sharjah Judicial Council since it was established in October 2024.

He took part in founding several media bodies in Sharjah, among them the Sharjah Media Council, the Sharjah Media City free zone (Shams) and the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, and launched the International Government Communication Forum in 2012.

Early life and education Al Qasimi was born in Sharjah on 23 May 1973. He is the son of , who served as minister of justice in the first federal cabinet of the United Arab Emirates and was appointed Deputy Ruler of Sharjah in 1990, a post he held for more than thirty years until his death on 9 July 2020.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Arkansas State University in the United States and a Master of Science in computer information systems from the University of Detroit Mercy in Michigan.

Career Government and public office Al Qasimi has been Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and deputy chairman of the emirate's Executive Council since August 2021, and has chaired the Sharjah Judicial Council since it was created in October 2024.

In media and communications, he has chaired the Sharjah Media Council since 2017 and the Sharjah Communication Technologies Authority since 2024.

In the energy sector, he has headed the Sharjah Oil Department since 2021 and the Sharjah National Oil Corporation since 2010, and has been a member of the emirate's energy council since 2024.

He also launched several regional initiatives, among them the International Government Communication Forum in 2012, the Sharjah Government Communication Award in 2013, the Xposure International Photography Festival in 2016 and the International Government Communication Center in 2017. and the foundation's chairperson, Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, renewed the appointment for a second term in February 2020.

In March 2023 he led a Sharjah delegation on a field visit to Kenya, where he inaugurated the "A Home for Every Home" initiative at the Kalobeyei settlement in the north of the country. The initiative had been launched by Arada in partnership with The Big Heart Foundation and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. He also visited the medical clinic at the Kakuma refugee camp.

Awards and honours Most Prominent Media Personality of 2016, from the Arab League. The Golden Medal of Honour from the European Royal Academy in Spain in 2025.

Personal life Al Qasimi is married to his cousin Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, a daughter of the Ruler of Sharjah Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi and president of the International Publishers Association from 2021 to 2023.
