About Sanak Singh Khatri
Sanak Singh Khatri, also called Sanak Singh Tandon, was a prominent 19th-century military commander of the Kingdom of Nepal. He was the brother-in-law of Jang Bahadur Rana who later became the founding dynast of the ruling Rana regime in Nepal. He was the only non Rana to become commanding colonel of Nepal army.
In 1847, Khatri led the victorious Nepalese army during the confrontation with the forces of the exiled King Rajendra in the Battle of Alau, after which Jang Bahadur Rana had uncontested authority in the kingdom. Khatri also built the Ramachandra Temple in Battisputali, Kathmandu as a devotee of Hindu deity Ram.
