Ruth M. O’Hara is an Irish cognitive psychologist and academic administrator serving as the senior associate dean for research at the Stanford University School of Medicine since 2019. She is the Lowell W. and Josephine Q. Berry professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences.
Life O'Hara's family is from County Wicklow. She was born to Esther and Noel O’Hara. She earned a Ph.D. in experimental cognitive psychology from the University of Southern California. Joan M. McDowd was her doctoral advisor. She was the interim senior associate vice provost in the office of the vice provost and dean of research from 2019 to 2020. Since 2019, O'Hara has been the senior associate dean for research. She is the Lowell W. and Josephine Q. Berry professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences.
