Richard K Moore (November 13, 1923 – November 13, 2012 He made significant research contributions to microwave remote sensing of atmosphere, ocean, land, ice, and planetary surfaces; radar systems; and radio wave propagation. He started University of Kansas' Remote Sensing Laboratory. and later the scatterometer. He served as Vice-chairman of the International Commission F from 1990 to 1993 and as Chairman from 1993 to 1996. In 1994 Moore became Distinguished Professor Emeritus. He was thesis advisor to more than 100 graduate students over the course of his career.
