Born 1946. Rasma Kārkliņa is a Latvian politician and political scientist.
Rasma Kārkliņa (born Rasma Šilde, often written Karklins) is a Latvian and American She attended the Free University of Berlin, where she graduated with a political science degree in 1969. She then moved to the United States and studied political science at the University of Chicago, earning an MA in international relations in 1971 and a PhD in political science in 1975.
Career Academia After obtaining her PhD from The University of Chicago, Kārkliņa became a professor of political science at Boston University. In the 1993–1994 school year, Kārkliņa was a Fulbright Visiting professor at The University of Latvia. and in 2010 she was elected to the 10th Latvian parliament (lv) in the New Unity party coalition. She served in the Latvian parliament for the duration of the 10th Saeima, and was also appointed to serve in the 11th Saeima during 2011.
