Ooni Akinmoyero
38th Ooni of Ife
About Ooni Akinmoyero
Ooni Akinmoyero (reigned c. 1770–1800) was the 38th Ooni of Ife, a paramount traditional ruler of Ile-Ife, the ancestral home of the Yoruba people.
Reign
Akinmoyero succeeded Ooni Ojigidiri and reigned as the 38th Ooni of Ife from approximately 1770 to 1800, a period that coincided with significant political turbulence across Yorubaland, including the decline of the Oyo Empire and increasing instability in the region. He was succeeded by Ooni Gbanlare, who reigned from 1800 to 1823.
The Ooniship of Ile-Ife is one of the most ancient traditional institutions in Yorubaland, with the Ooni regarded as the spiritual custodian of Yoruba culture and descent from Oduduwa, the progenitor of the Yoruba people.
